New Toys!

Got some new goods from down the street.
I’m trying a different set of tools out. Yes, I spent way too much money on art stuff, but it’s art stuff, and that is never cheap.

The main thing is the new pencil set (black and blue lead): “K World”? Mechanical Drawing Pencils– they are stupidly fun to draw with:

Guess who is in that picture and I’ll give you a nickel (shipping costs not included).

The markers go on like a coat of paint, they are pretty awesome as well–the photo of the marker test taken from my iPhone is just a smear.

The white pencils for highlight are good… however there is something that is damn near perfect (besides whiteout which is too unpredictable) is white ink (next pay-check).

BTD official poster?

I think this might be the official BTD poster.
I did it… a year ago? Since then however I was inspired by the trendy Art posters people are doing now for 80s movies, so that is why I did the other “trendy posters” post [ here ]. I really hope the fans vote on which poster to use, and then I can “clean it up” for printing before ComiCon… Honestly, I don’t know how much time is left before then… it’s not my bag.

Most fun I’ve had all year? Making Motion Graphic stuff for Wonka.
I got to do the full she-bang from concept to execution.
Apparently Wonka loved it so much, it became the basis for all the Digital Advertising for the candy this year.

Client Re-Design

Concept Updates for no reason.
Well, there is a reason. Firstly, I’m not doing this to talk badly about the work we did in years past. I think we do some good stuff here, I just wanted to push the design, and see what would happen. Secondly, I am doing so much programming, I wanted to practice my design chops, and felt this might be a healthy exercise.

TurboTax:

Here I am using the red arrow to push a GPS – leading you to your MAX refund feel. The city helps reinforce the GPS theme, and makes the banner more “fun” overall. I like to slant text, I admit it. Banners are to web pages what stickers are to school lockers. They should look kinda like a 5th grader slapped them up there, because, let’s face it–if they blend in with the theme of the website you wouldn’t know they were there… and what’s the point? So, yeah, I slanted the text. I’ll do it again. Face.

King’s Hawaiian:
King’s Hawaiian has a lot of fun associated with the brand: family, hawaii, happy orange color scheme, and those fonts are just fun. I wanted to aim the age of the banner down and make it more “family fun”. There are a lot of CTAs here as well, so I separated them out a bit more. Save $1.00 to me needed to be on a sticker… it makes bargans more bargain-ier. Adding the dark blue helps pop that magnificent orange. Looking at it again, and I think I could lose that drop shadow, the colors are vibrent enough that the white can stand on it’s own.

Dole:

Have you seen our Dole TV spots? I love our Dole TV spots. Dole is about color and fun. They are the Nickelodeon of fruit. I wanted to keep the fun of the brand and explore color and texture.
